FAQ

Dear Softball Enthusiast,

On behalf of the Commissioners of the North Grounds Softball League at the University of Virginia School of Law, we welcome the 64 Co-Rec division teams and 48 Regular division teams that have entered the 25th Annual Virginia Law Softball Invitational to be held April 4th through April 6th.

Registration

Official registration is now closed. Check-in for teams will take place at Wild Wing (820 W. Main St.) on Friday April 4th, from 4:00 – 10:00 pm.

Tournament Format

Given last year’s positive response to pod play, this year’s tournament format will again consist of a first round round-robin with the top three teams from each four-team pod advancing to a second round single elimination bracket.

A complete pod/bracket schedule can be accessed by clicking here.

Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, play will continue unless the fields are deemed unplayable by the umpires or grounds crew. In the unfortunate event part (or all) of the tournament is canceled due to inclement weather, entry fees cannot be refunded.

Should any team attempt to play on closed fields, a forfeit will be entered for each of its remaining games and the entire school will be banned from the tournament through 2010. The University of Virginia and City of Charlottesville may also bring trespassing charges at their discretion.

Social Activities

In keeping with UVa tradition, NGSL will host a barbeque on Saturday afternoon as well as a tournament party on Saturday night RAIN OR SHINE. Tickets to both these events are included in team entry fees for roster members. Beer will be provided during Friday night registration, with the musical stylings of UVA Law’s Restatements to follow.

We are happy you have accepted our invitation to join us for the weekend. Information regarding accommodations, rules, etc. is posted on this Web site, and will be updated as the tournament approaches. We are working hard to ensure that this year’s tournament will be a great success, both for tournament participants and Children, Youth and Family Services of Charlottesville (“CYFS”), to which we donate the majority of the tournament proceeds.

If you have any questions, please e-mail UVALawInvitational@virginia.edu.

Sincerely,

Allie Ferguson & Kyle Schindler
2008 Tournament Directors

*The rules of the Co-Rec division require that of the ten players on the field, at least four must be women. Generally, teams in the Regular division are all male, but that is not required.
